Plagiarism: The act of presenting another's work or ideas as your own. Not cool ~ |
salam,
I was tracking back my reader, and visit their own blog. Thanx to Feedjit, i could actually trace back my visitor, from where they found me. I visited a blog, and to my suprise, i found one of my poetry in one of its post. Of course, i didn't mind sharing any of my post/pictures/poetry/links, the fact i know i tend to cut and paste myself articles that i fancy to share in my blog. But you see, as a lecturer, i always advice my student that there is nothing wrong referring to an existing idea, just as long as you know and respect where the initial idea came from. It is plain wrong for us to take something that does not belong to us, and claim that it is ours. It is not stealing per say, but you can say the concept is the same. Ideas especially are intellectual property, you go through inspirations and sincerity to show your own piece of mind. So i was obviously suprise to see one of my poetry was copied through and through including the pictures it was attached to another person's blog entry, with its own name as its author. I am not mad, just suprise.
Am i being over emotional? If my work should go about anonymous, then let it be. May God protect myself, from any hurtful and ill feelings. *i still feel sad though*
H Note: Please have some respect on the author's idea's and words. Sharing is the whole point of blogging anyway, so the next time you like to share something, please link back to the source or just drop a comment/email just to say hi, and tell me you like to share them. Please ask, it rather nicer that way.
Thank You readers, May God bless all of you.

First,I disagree, that is stealing, and the worst kind of stealing for me!and you have the right to be mad..
Shame on him/her!
Second gimme the link,lol
Rain, the reason why i wouldn't say it is stealing, because the fact that it is okay for anyone to cut and past what i say, as long as it is made clear where does it come from. Which, unlike stealing, taking something and saying where you got it from, does still not make it right...its not like stealing things. LIke i said, the concept is still the same, you're taking what is not yours...i don't know, its somewhat sugar coating the whole thing...but it still does not make it right.
and hahah...nah, i rather not start naming names. heheh. Let us hope, it was just an honest mistake, that shouldnt happen again to anyone.. :) insyaAllah
That's horrible! Like you, I think it's fine (great even) that people share other people's stuff, but you should ALWAYS refer back to where it came from and give credit where credit is due!
Salaam.
i agree 100%. its not that hard to credit or link back to the original author... or maybe that person doesn't know how to. (husnu zhon.hehe)
May Allah bless you with sufficient sabr and iman insyaAllah. :)
Salam & Welcome Qur,
Thank you for your comment. :)
yes, it is always better to keep good thoughts. I'm sure it was just an honest mistake, but it opened my eyes how it is somehow taken rather lightly by some people.
forgetfulness is also part of us, so it could probably be that. And it could happen to any one. kan?
Thank you for your kind dua.. :) Amin.
becky, i hear you...it is upsetting, although i hope it is just an honest mistake/simply forgotten. I hope those who did this,(you know who you are) won't take it lightly, the next time we copy paste anything... :)
Yea I just ask that people reference me. I use people's stuff all the time but I always reference back to the blog or link where I got it so that person can benefit from me using their stuff. I get to share what they wrote and they get more blog traffic from me referencing them, that way we both benefit.
But just using your stuff is copywriting. big no no
